System requirements
TapeNote for Windows needs a reasonably recent PC. A graphics card is nice, not required.
- Operating system
- Windows 10 (21H2 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64)
- Processor
- With AVX2 support: nearly every Intel or AMD processor from about 2015 on
- Memory
- 8 GB or more. The speech model uses about 2 GB while the app runs
- Graphics card
- Optional. With Vulkan (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel with a current driver) transcription is much faster: about 30× faster than real time on an RTX 4070 Ti. Without a GPU about 2× real time on a 12-core processor
- Speech model
- Whisper large-v3-turbo: about 1.6 GB, or the compact variant of about 0.5 GB
- Disk space
- About 225 MB for the app, plus the model, plus about 14 MB per hour of recording
- Internet
- Only for the cloud: sync, web library, share links and AI. Recording and transcribing work offline
Web library
The web library and share pages work in every current browser: Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari, also on Mac, tablet and phone.
What TapeNote records
TapeNote records the sound played through your default sound device. It does not record your microphone. In a call you therefore hear the others in the recording, not yourself.
